Helping You Get Published Manuscript Assessment Service

Our manuscript reading and assessment service will get you started with the process of positioning your book in the market and placing it with a publisher or agent. The assessment, which clients typically find very helpful, includes a reading and analysis of your project. You then receive a full written report (2000-3500 words) covering the following:

strengths of the work to be emphasized
problems (if any) of presentation and formatting
editorial issues (if any) and sample markup to illustrate typical problems and corrections
problems (if any) of concept, structure, plotting, narrative style, dialogue, and characterization that might potentially reduce the market and publication appeal of fiction
problems (if any) of concept, structure, content, style, and documentation that might potentially reduce the market and publication appeal of nonfiction
practical suggestions for fixes
thoughts on market positioning
guidelines for preparing a book proposal
step-by-step recommendations

Options

Some of our clients stop with the assessment and do their own revision work; others return for full editing and/or book proposal preparation. We offer our recommendations on an individual, no-obligation basis.

Assessments can be done from hard copy or from email attachment, according to client preference.

Turn-Around Time

Our turn-around time, once the assessment begins, is 1-2 weeks.

Payment Terms

For small jobs, such as assessments, we ask for full payment in advance. We are not set up for payment by credit card at this time. Clients in the US and Canada normally pay by personal check, and clients overseas by US bank draft or by personal check if they happen to have a US bank account. We now also accept Euro checks. Please let us know if you wish to have your fee quoted in Euros.
