Book manuscript editing, formatting & proofreading
Editing services include professional formatting of your book manuscript; basic copyediting, as well as any necessary structural and substantive editing; proofreading of the edited copy; explanatory editorial notes; and miscellaneous mentoring/advising, as needed during the work.
Clients receive:
- a marked copy of the manuscript, showing editorial changes and comments
- a final, proofread clean copy
- a full editorial report on the manuscript and changes made to it
Writing & rewriting
In some cases, substantive editing might include significant rewriting of passages for correctness, clarity, and style. For similar reasons, some writing-in of new material to the original text may be required. The necessity for this level of creative editing is conveyed to, and approved by, the client in advance of work commencing. Major rewrites and write-ins are explained via in-text commentary and/or author-editor consultation as work progresses.
Book proposal preparation
Before approaching conventional publishers, you will need to work on a book proposal. Services include reviewing and editing your draft proposal; or I can prepare the full package for you, including carrying out and writing up market research for your book.
Express queries
Not sure whether to publish conventionally or to self-publish? A professional query letter is a quick way to test the market and help settle the question before proceeding to a full proposal or incurring self-publishing expenses.

Book market research
These days, most manuscripts, book proposals, and queries will not gain an agent's or publisher's interest without book market research. I undertake market research and incorporate it into your book proposal and/or query letter. As a result, my clients' submissions get read, while those of many others are quickly tossed aside.
Book trailers
A book trailer (similar to a movie trailer) is a lively and budget-friendly way to show off the best features of your book or book proposal. And not only that but, via the Internet, a trailer can reach your potential readership all over the world.

Author web pages
If you do not have a website, a single, distinctive web page that presents your book at a glance can be a great marketing tool both before and after publication. Provide the link in your book proposal or query letter; use the page as the entryway to other Internet promotional efforts once your book is published. Helping You Get Published services include custom web page design with a special feel for books and authors.
